i n d e p e n d e n c e
it's such a long
lovely
luminous
word.
it brings to mind
fireworks
and cookouts
with friends.
wind-whipped hair
and
freshly-squeezed
lemonade.
drives through
the country
with the
windows
down.
picnics and ice cream
socials.

but
i n d e p e n d e n c e
represents
more than just
activities on
one day every year.
it stands for
freedom,
a lasting
reminder of the
blood
and
sweat
and
tears
shed for
our country.
men and women
who died
defending us.
families left
broken and shattered
when their
loved ones
never returned.

and even more
importantly,
i n d e p e n d e n c e
is a star-spangled
picture of the
forever
freedom we
have through
our Savior -
the One who made
the ultimate
sacrifice
to break
our chains.

"So if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed."
// John 8:36 //

(This post is a couple days late, but it seemed appropriate to post this on Fourth of July. Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Americans! Hope you are having a blessed day with family and friends!)
